Where Dissolve into Stasis illustrates a decline, Ruin & Stagnation is the sense of finding your feet amid the decay of half-formed ideas; at once crowded and alone. Inspired by the depiction of a forgotten parcel of suburban land - an alleyway with no entry or exit point - in Haruki Murakami’s 'The Wind-up Bird Chronicle', the cacophony of ideas that went into the song were stitched together by improvising the first half of the track on a MOOG SubHarmonicon (rhythmic harmony) and Mother 32 (wavering melody). Tension builds as envelopes push their filters ever more open, and a transition punctuated by over-compressed and increasingly out-of-sync kicks makes way for a kind of small jazz ensemble with bushed drums, a bass guitar groove and dense, closed-voiced chords on my Jazzmaster running through a little Supro amp.
