about

Back to drawing inspiration from what I’d been reading, Partitioning again finds its theme in Ishiguro’s 'Klara and The Sun'. Those who may have read it will know references to Klara’s visual field splitting into partitions is a kind of artificial (?) emotional response to sensory stimuli and this concept I found thrilling; this adaptation of a very human kind of response playing out across fabricated mechanisms. What you’re hearing in this track is an audible approximation of this partitioning. Predominantly two sound sources are heard throughout - the Instruō Saïch on the harmony and the Endorphin.es Furthrrrr Generator producing the saw in the bass. The Harmony is fed into Mimeophon where the delay is modulated heavily by Wogglebug and, the delay not being clocked, creates this series of whirring and evaporating dissonant screams and whistles. Performing the bass part was a lot of fun, as it was produced by hand, performing the part on the Harmonàig where only the bass voice is used and which I also modulate with control voltage for Inversion movements by physically dropping a patch cable carrying random gates into the CV input. The super compressed percussion part is built around the random bass performance and was designed to be an accompaniment to the random rhythms in the bass and to support the feeling of mechanical overwhelmingness. As the partitions subside and the mechanism returns to normal operation, I perform a simple harmony with Harmonàig and Saïch (this time all four voices) given spatial breath with Strymon BlueSky.
