Languishing in seemingly endless cycles of creation without realising any work can be a dark solemn place. Dissolve into Stasis is a work forced to completion during one such period. In it I’ve used various means for creating music that assign a dark colour to the noise work and brings order to the harmonic rhythm. I used a matrix style of composition commonly used in 12 tone music however had the matrix assign rhythmic values to each of the two voices in the harmony and limited tones to just 5, adhering loosely to the Japanese miyako-bushi scale. The piece was performed on the modular, mostly 2x MakeNoise STOs and the MINIMOD Transistor Ladder Filter from AJH Synth sequenced by a MakeNoise René v2, recorded over a single take and elaborated on by using resonators and saturation to create the aesthetic audible over the first half of the track.The latter half was created using a roomy drum loop over which I recorded a guitar riff into the MakeNoise Morphagene which plays evolving versions of it, while I perform along on the bass guitar. The musical course charted by the track represents the slowing pace of output and gratification, and how close one can come to being absolutely stationary before something noteworthy is realised.
